Family RustDesk setup is below — anyone can read it. To add PCs, send invites, and use Remote like the main Edgar dashboard, sign in with an account that has the Jeff Home role.

RustDesk for family & friends

Self-hosted RustDesk — no Edgar agent required. Office work PCs stay on staff Home; use the section below for hand-configured RustDesk only.

Your RustDesk server (Jeff Home)

On each family PC, open RustDesk → Settings → Network and enter exactly:

ID server: nas.allinoneedgar.com:21116

Relay server: nas.allinoneedgar.com:21117

Key (public key — safe to share with family for RustDesk):

This key matches id_ed25519.pub from your hbbs data folder — not a login password.

1 — Install RustDesk on their Windows PC (one-time)

Prefer winget (Windows 10/11). Run PowerShell or Command Prompt as Administrator if winget asks:

winget install RustDesk.RustDesk --silent --accept-package-agreements --accept-source-agreements

Or download the installer from rustdesk.com.

2 — Point RustDesk at Jeff Home (hbbs)

Open RustDesk → Settings (gear) → Network. Unlock settings if prompted. Set ID server and Relay server and paste the Key from the yellow box above once your server block is configured.

Restart RustDesk from the system tray after saving.

3 — Unattended access (no Accept click each week)

After RustDesk shows their numeric ID, set a permanent password on their PC (RustDesk settings → Security). Use a long random password stored in your password manager — never SMS or email. Configure approval to use the password instead of manual Accept where RustDesk allows (see current RustDesk docs for "approve mode" / permanent password).

Someone trusted must do this once at the keyboard — a 90-year-old relative cannot find the Windows key every week, but they should still agree that you may connect for support.

Consent and revoke

Treat remote access like a one-time or ongoing permission they gave you for IT-style help. They can revoke anytime: change or clear the RustDesk permanent password, uninstall RustDesk, or — if you used Edgar enrollment — uninstall the Edgar agent from Programs and Features (their PC drops off your PCs list after the next missed heartbeat).

Windows Quick Assist is ideal for a single session with no install; pair it with Jeff Home when they already trust you at the keyboard once.

4 — Office PCs still use Edgar

Work machines enrolled in All In One Edgar keep using the staff dashboard — Remote Access, Wake, RDP, and firm RustDesk IDs from the agent. Family PCs can still appear there too if you enroll them (site Family). Jeff Home instructions above are for PCs where you only configure RustDesk by hand.

RustDesk is licensed AGPL v3; server images follow rustdesk-server. See repository DEPLOYMENT.md (RustDesk / Docker sections) for hbbs/hbbr on a NAS; Jeff Home on Windows uses the same keys — publish TCP ports through Cloudflare Tunnel or your router as you prefer.
